so you guys have mapped for a while, but now you need a new texture?. you have browsed the web, without result?.. so you start to look for ways to make it your self. well look no further!
in this guide i will provide links to the program we use, some sites with stock photos there might be useful, and a step by step guide, from nothing, to a .wad file you can use in your map.
first off, we need two programs.
Wally:
this program is used to transform your texture into a wad file, and to gather your textures in that one file.
Download
Here.
Second, we need a program to make our textures, i my self use photoshop, a trail can be downloaded for free, and gives you 30days, you can also use programs such as Paintshop pro, or the Free tool Gimp, but since i don't know those other two's, ill make this guide with photoshop.
Download
Here.
before continuing you should install both of these programs.
Now lets light up Adobe Photoshop CS3.
You will have a window like the one below.

First, we need to make a new file.
go to
File-New(Ctrl + n). select a width and a height, remember, that it has to be dividable with 16. i myself normally use w128-h128 for grass and ground, or concrete. or 256*256 if i want many details. doors and such are often. 96*64,
for this example ill use 128*128.
should look like the one below.

Well, we need some source texture
i normally get mine from
cgtextures, it has many nice textures for games and such.
well, i think ill make a wooden floor for this tutorial. so ill browse the wood category, old planks.
the one i found.

i then right click it and
Copy, and go back into Photoshop, and right click
paste(Ctrl + v)in photoshop you will see that the picture is way to big, for our little texture, so we need to rescale it a bit.
Make sure that the layer with the texture is selected, and not the background layer.
then go to Edit-Free Transform
(Ctrl + t)now drag from a corner, while holding Shift down ( This is done to avoid losing proportions ). if you cant see the bottom right corner, just do it from the top right, and drag the image up to your view again.

this will make the image a bit blurred, to correct this, go to Filter-Sharpen-Sharpen, once should do, but you can do it twice if you feel it looks better.

now we need to make the texture tileable, this can be quite hard, and take a long time.
first go to Filter-Other-Offset...
a window will pop up. type in 80*80. or what ever seems to put the bad tiling in the middle of your picture, as shown below.

now press ok. and select the clone stamp tool.

what this tool does, it clones a area you select, then applies it there where you want, highly useful when making textures.
i set the Flow: to 50%, and brush size to 20px (right click on the image to set brush size) in the top. now. select a part while holding down Alt(left), you will see a small dot, click on a place to clone that area,

now move abit to the right, and start to clone, you can see how it select from the first area, and apply to the second.

since i have wooden planks, i go for getting the lines to fit. after you have played a bit around with it, and have a good result.

do the off-set again. to make sure it aligns all around.

,when we made sure it tile nicely (you can make a new layer, double the size, and paste your image in there, too see it better).
we need to make sure that the layer is in one layer only. this is done by
Layer-Merge visible.

now we need to copy it all, (Ctrl + a) will mark all. when its all marked, hit (Ctrl + c) to copy.

(now we leave this, cause we need wally open)
find the wally.exe and open it.
when open, go to File-New(ctrl + n), in the dropdown menu at type: find the one called Half-life packages[wad3](.wad)
now right click in the white area, and Paste as new ( you need to have your image copied last ).

and now you will have your texture, you can paste as many images as you want into this file, and then save it as a texture.

to save it, go to File-save as (ctrl + a) give it a name like, zeon_wad.wad, and save it to your cstrike folder "c:\program files\steam\SteamApps\Your@mail\counter-strike\cstrike"

and now you have your wad file. lets see if it works, shall we?..
this is my hammer result

. remember to exit and open hammer again, when you added the wad, else you cant find it.

Open up hammer.
