How to make a func_train:

1:Create a platform whit the block tool. press tie to entity and choose func_train. make "first stop target" to 1.
2: Create stop targets whit the entity axe and make them like this:

path_corner 1:
name: 1
next stop target 2

path_corner 2:
name: 2
next stop target: 3

path_corner 3
name: 3
next stop target

and like that all the time. :!: Iceman![/img]

Tutorial readers are stupid as hell, you need a screenshot for allmost every click you do. Use ALT + PrintScreen to take a screenshot of the active window. Resize your screenshots to 512 in the width or less. If there's no graphics, but only plane colours on the picture save it in png or else jpg. When in doubt save it as png.

Good short tutorial, my compliments on that.

Shouldn't it be path_track for a train? And what about the origin to make sure the train is aligned to pass through the track points accurately? He didn't mention a control panel either to control train speed or direction along track...

This isn't a dig it's just constructive feedback.

its path_track. You use the same entity in elevators.

I use path_corner for elevators and path_track for trains. This sounds like a tutorial for either an elevator or a train that is not controlable.

The train will travel through the paths using the entity origin, or centre origin of the group of brushes used to make the train. So an origin brush would help in predicting the actual train placement on a track. I ran into this mistake making my first train it was partially in the floor and i didn't understand why.

In other words if you want to make your train travel accurately along a path you have to include an origin brush in the train entity to do so. Of course this only apply's to complicated train structures including multiple brushes.

TheMiede i did not understand what you were trying to say in your reply..

This is telling us how to use func_train not what it is for ie an elevator or a train itself, a noob can't disdinguish the difference between a train and tracktrain. Nor the requirements for either. I think this should be given a basis to build upon. Such as "how to make a moving platform around your map" or something not just "how to make a func_train" This doesn't tell anyone what it is for or anything.

BTW do you have a propper train tutorial yet? By propper i mean actual train not to diss this tut as unpropper.

Erhh, what exactly is not working? Please provide more info so we can actually revise the tutorial. Maybe the tutorial is just fine but you're doing it wrong?

Is it possible to make start automacilly without button and touch (on map start)? Like some plane who fly around map.

use trigger_auto to trigger it at the start of each round.

you can also use trigger_multiple for func_train/tracktrain to get this "get inside and start moving" effect as well as you can put some triggers around the map that when you walk through them, a plane flies over or something like that.

I'd like to say: Think 4D with trains and other triggerable entities ;)
