The Texture Application
by Egir Helgrimson

The texture application allows you to change the settings of textures on selected brush surfaces. In this tutorial I will just shortly explain how to apply different textures to a brush, shift the textures and how to scale the textures. As this should be very basic to mappers, I shall try to keep it reader friendly and simple to new mappers.

Selecting a brushside and launching the Texture Application

First move your 3d-view to the brush you would like to change the textures preference on. In this case I would like to change the texture preferences on the end surface of the lightblue block that you see on the picture below.

Click the Arrow Tool as shown below.

Launch the Texture Application by pressing the icon shown below.

Now the texture application will apear, also known as Face proberties. It looks like this.

Click the face you want to edit in the 3d-view. You can select the intire brush by holding down shift while clicking the brush. You may also select multiple faces by holding down shift while clicking these. If you would like to select all brushsides on a brush, you can also simply mark the brush before you launch the Texture Application and they will all be marked.

Changing the texture on selected brushsides

Select a brush side as explained above. Then click the browse button in the Face Proberties.

Select the texture that you wish to apply to the marked surface. (you can select the texture by double clicking it).

To apply the texture to the selected surface, simply click the button Apply. As shown below.

Now exit the Texture Application/Face Proberties by clicking the X-button, as shown on the picture below.

You will now notice that the texture has changed. From this:

Moving textures

Select the brushside with the texture you want to move. See Selecting a brushside above for more details. I have choosen to select this face:

And I want to move it 80 units to one of the sides. In The texture application I add 80 to the value allready present at shift X. 80 + 32 equals 112, so thats the number that I'll type in.

And then I press Enter, to have the change take effect. That results in this:

Now close the texture application as described earlier. Again I will round up by showing a picture from before:

      And after:

You may want to notice the panels on these two pics, since they are the ones revealing that the texture actually has been shifted (moved).

Scaling textures

Launch the Texture Application and select the surfaces on which you want to scale the textures. This time I've chosen a waterbrush, since that makes more sence to scale than the cabin from before.

Fill in the scale X and scale Y with the number 4 to scale the texture with a factor of 4 in x and y directions.

      Hit enter.

Scaling textures up is a good idea if you want to improve performance by lowering r_speeds. Read more about r_speeds here http://www.egir.dk/index.php?page=vhe_bsp.php
