How to make a road, that dont look crappy
By Silver
well here comes a tut for that.
i suggest that you get to know how to use the cliptool
(if not, read the other tut on this site), or
you are able to use the vertex manipulator.
In this tut, i will only be using the cliptool.
first we create a brush, with a ground texture.
in my example i am using Storm, and
chateau. for the ground i use
cxgroundd.
So here we have the place where the road
is supposed to be.
then we will clip up the brush into
three brushes, remember that the
middle brush is the one we will make
into a road.
now apply a diffrend texture to the middle
brush, i will suggest a texture that would
fit in ( in my ex, i use the cxgroundi )
now it should loke like this
now we have a pretty nice road.
but still - it seems rather flat.
so now we begin to add some more
detail, but still with our three
brushes. first we lower the middle
brush a bit
w0w. I guess that you will all say
this looks like crap - but hold your flame.
Now select one of the brushes on each
site, and clip it as shown below
and do the same in the other side
and voila, you now have a road
that should loke like this, and it looks
pretty nice
Well, for those who only want a single road,
the tutorial has finished, but i guess that there are others
who would care if I showed how to make a corner on the road.
well, here is how it goes.
First you select all the three brushes, and
copy/paste them. Just make sure they dont
overlap eachother, because its hard to
select them otherwise.
While you have all the three brushes selected
hit Ctrl-m and you will get a pop-up menu like
this one
Now in the last option ( Z )
write 90 so the selected brushes
will be rotated 90 degrees against the clock around the Z-axis.
now it should look like this
Now move the rotated brush into our first
road, and make sure that the ends will
overlap eachother as shown below.
It is very important that you are
precise when you move the road.
Now we will clip it, so no brushes over-
lap each other.
And the other one
The finished result should look like
this (click to enlarge).
Now you just need to apply the walls
and you will have a part off your map.
It is very important to be
VERY VERY precise, when you clip
the brushes, because a tiny mistake will
make it look like a "piece of shit".
For those who are able to use the
vertex manipulater, you can repair the
mistakes, by alligning the vertexes
for the others, if you made a mistake, press
ctrl-z (undo) and try again, until you get it right.
