How to use the Clipping tool
Many people want to know how to use some of the tools located in the toolbar. One of the more unknown tools is the Clipping tool. It is located as shown on the image beneath.

This is a very usefull tool, and here i will descripe how to use it. First we make the floor, walls and roof. I use the textures from HL.wad.
Floor = C1A3FLOOR02
Wall = OUT_W5
ROOF = OUT_ROOF1
And it should look like this.
now we have a room, apply the necessary entities (light, info_player_start and info_player_deathmatch), and it is ready for playing. But maybe you now discovered that you wanted to make a door. You don't need to delete the brush, and start all over again, instead clip a hole in the map, just follow the instructions, and try experiment a bit with it on your own.
First you select your brush, and the press the clipping tool.
Now pick a point in the map (in one of the 2d views), and drag down. Now it should look like this.
As you can see, one part of the brush is red, and the other is white. The reed part is the one that will be cutted away, and the white part is the part that wont.
But instead of pressing enter, and finish the clip, press the Clipping tool again and now the 2d view should look like this
Now both parts of the wall is white. Then press enter, and instead of 1 brush, you will be having 2.
This helps very much, so instead of spending double time, by creating many brushes, you can create 1 brush, and then, when needed, you can clip the single brush into more brushes. Remember the clipping tool can be used both vertical and horisontical.
As i said before we wanted to make a door, so we keep on clipping.
And again
Now we can delete the square we made in the middle.
And voila, there you have your doorway.
This is one of the great advangedes of the cliptool, andother is that it is not a dangerous tool. It will not increase your r_speeds asmuch as the carve / hollow tool may do.
Use it as much as you like, just watch that you dont create a leak in your map. When you are working on the walls in your map, a tiny mistake is enough to make a leak, that is allmost impossible to discover.
